Why I'm Running as a Clean Elections Candidate

Like the current Senate President Libby Mitchell, Republican Peter Mills and nearly 80% of the Maine legislature, I think that running a campaign free of the influence of lobbyists and donors makes sense and is the right thing to do. Especially in these hard times, people need representatives that will choose to run "clean" elections. Clean Elections was passed overwhelmingly by Maine voters and they have continued to support the idea of having elections where everyday people can run and not have to rely on wealthy friends and lobbyists. That is also why our current US Rep Chellie Pingree has signed onto a federal clean elections bill and her daughter, Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree went down and testified in favor of it. Getting money out of politics in Maine and DC makes sense.

Want to help?

Looking for ways to help support my campaign? Just read below for a couple of different options.

1. If you are a registered voter in House District #136 of any political party you can make a $5 donation on my behalf to the Maine Clean Elections Fund. I am required to collect 60 $5 checks in order to qualify for this type of financing. See below for a couple of options for your $5 contribution.

2. If you are a registered voter who lives anywhere in Maine you can contribute with seed money. I am allowed to collect up to $500, in amounts of $100 or less. If you are interested in making a seed money donation please let me know.

I am almost finished collecting seed money, and I am working hard to collect the 60 $5 donations before the end of March. If you live in my district and you would like to make a $5 donation on my behalf, click the link below, select Make a Qualifying Contribution to a Candidate, push GO, and then follow the instructions:

If you'd rather not donate on line just send me an e-mail at megan.rochelo@gmail.com and I'd happily come and pick up a check from you. Of course I am also looking for people to be a part of my volunteer campaign team, so if you have any interest in helping out with some of the fun upcoming campaign activities please let me know.

The Issues

Here are the issues I think are of immediate importance and which I will work to support in the legislature:

1. Healthy People and Community
• Ensure everyone has access to affordable, high quality health care
• Guarantee a strong public health system ready to handle modern challenges
• Work to make our community a place where people have access to and education
about the importance of nutrition and physical activity
• Increase the opportunities for access to outdoor recreation for all people
• Maximize efforts to ensure clean air, water and soil now and for future
generations

2. Education and Job Opportunities
• Support education to ensure we have the resources necessary at a local level to
meet the needs of a diverse student body
• Ensure we have education and training opportunities that are preparing young
people for meaningful employment and that all at all levels of education
students are being trained for careers that our available in our community
• Increase employment opportunities (across sectors) in our communities through
support for current businesses and recruitment on new and innovate companies

3. Thriving Downtown and Creative Economy
• Preserving the history and structures of our Main Streets and ensuring downtown
once again becomes the thriving hub of our community
• Utilizing modern tools of economic development to invest in our downtown,
encouraging local business growth and fostering smart investments in our
community
• Nurturing the creative economy that has started to take root and helping to
ensure we become a destination for arts and culture

Quick Introduction

Hello! My name is Megan Rochelo and I'm running for election to the the Maine House of Representatives in District 136 which includes a portion of Biddeford. I'm thrilled with the potential of representing the people of such a great city.

My husband Jason and I live with our two dogs in a house built in 1920 and within walking distance of downtown Biddeford. We are currently renovating and restoring the house and learning about the history of the family that owned the house for over 50 years. Jason is a boat builder and marine technician who graduated from The Landing School in Arundel. In our free time we enjoy exploring all the great outdoor opportunities in Maine on both land and water.

I'm passionate and dedicated to making Biddeford, once again, a thriving city that people are excited to work, live and play in. I have a background in public health and a desire to work to ensure everyone has the ability to live a healthy and productive life in a community that supports them.
